Larian Studios Reveal a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Yet

The anticipation about the recent awards show was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team might be crafting a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it kicked off the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, player agency, and complex character building—elements that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities only possible with a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, allowing players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be solved in diverse methods, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can anticipate more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
